OneRepublic have unveiled their first single for 2019, a dance pop anthem titled “Rescue Me.”

On this new single, the band stick to their signature anthemic formula. Frontman Ryan Tedder leads with compellingly overstuffed verses which lead into soaring choruses. On the percussive side of things, the drums go a long way into turning “Rescue Me” into a danceable pop gem.

“Rescue Me” came together quickly, Tedder said in a statement. “[Bassist Brent Kutzle] started playing this lonely-sounding guitar riff and the first thing out of my mouth was the chorus as it is now,” he said. “The concept: In every friendship there’s a give and take, but sometimes you have to wonder if the love you give is the love you’ll get.”

The music video, which was directed by Christian Lamb, follows a kid running from bike-riding bullies. As he dances to the song, he summons special powers that help him send his tormenters flying.

“Rescue Me” is OneRepublic’s first single in almost a year, following 2018’s “Connection.”The American pop rock group haven’t confirmed that either single will form part of a larger release, though an album is anticipated.
